    Question mfc590 1 !?

    - - -

    # Make sure no other device drivers, such as Zip Drives, External CD-ROM Drives, etc., are set to run automatically through the parallel/ USB port when booting up your computer.

    Suggested areas to check:

    * Win.ini file
    To see this file, please refer to C\WINDOWS\Win.ini.
    If you can find any devices which communicate with the parallel/USB port listed with load= or run=, you need to delete them.

    * Startup Group
    Please click Start-->Programs-->Startup.
    If you can find any devices which communicate with the parallel/USB port, you need to delete them from there.- - !??; for 16-bit app support

    *ECP (Enhanced Capabilities Port)
    Selector 1: ECP mode
    The ECP mode enhances the normal bidirectional communications between the facsimile
    equipment and the connected PC for higher transmission speed.An ECP has several internal modes. In addition to ECP mode, an ECP can emulate an SPP (original) or PS/2-type (Byte-mode, or simple bidirectional) port. Many ECPs also support EPP emulation. Fast Centronics is an additional mode that gives faster performance with many SPP-type peripheralsByte Mode
    8 bits at a time using data lines, sometimes referred to as a "bi-directional" port.

    # Bi-directional

    EPP
    Enhanced Parallel Port- used primarily by non-printer peripherals, CD ROM, tape, hard drive, network adapters, etc....
    ECP
    Extended Capability Port- used primarily by new generation of printers and scannersMany people believe that if they get a 1284 port with EPP or ECP that they will automatically get the benefit of faster printing. Unfortunately, this is not true. In order to get faster printing three things must be present: 1- the parallel port must be capable of operating in the ECP mode, 2- there must be a port driver present that knows HOW to operate in the mode, and most important, 3- the printer (or peripheral) must be designed to operate in this mode. Not all printers, and actually only a few of the newer ones, can operate in one of these advanced modes. See the Compatible Products page for a listing of some of these printers and peripherals.
