    Talking SPD-Z OCZ RAM

OCZ Technology Group, a leading supplier of high-performance memory modules, on Tuesday unveiled an unprecedented program that allows end-users to reconfigure Serial Presence Detect (SPD) chips on memory modules, boosting performance of their systems without violating the warranty or overclocking.

It is not a secret that memory controllers as well as memory modules behave differently despite of similar latency and clock-speed settings. Even though performance difference is typically negligible, some enthusiasts demand the highest speed possible, which means additional overclocking or tweaking. OCZs SPD-Z technology will allow end-users to program their memory modules for the best performance with their mainboards.

Tweaks of hardware and firmware have become the primary tool of most computer hardware OEMs to differentiate themselves from the field of competitors, however, in some cases at the expense of compatibility. OCZs answer to the fragmentation of the market is the patent-pending SPD-Z technology that allows users to select custom SPDs from a library to optimize the interaction between the motherboard and memory firmware, commented Dr. Michael Schuette, vice president of technology development at OCZ Technology.

The first public beta test of SPD-Z will be available for download on the OCZ Support Forums starting Tuesday. OCZs renowned technical support staff will be on hand to offer advice and tips for those in need, according to the companys statement on the matter. New SPDs will be added every week and community involvement and discussion is highly encouraged on the forum so OCZ can provide the best level of compatibility and service, the supplier indicated.
