    Description:

Installing Windows Vista on a computer with a SATA hard drive
    Resolution:

Follow the procedure below to install Windows Vista on a Toshiba portable computer that has a SATA (Serial ATA) hard disk drive -- including those listed above, and other models in the future. These steps cover installing only the Vista OS itself, and not the various Toshiba-specific drivers, which may be found at http://209.167.114.38/support/Download/ln_byModel.asp

    1. Download the Toshiba RAID driver for your computer from the Toshiba support website

    2. Extract the RAID driver files to a USB flash drive, or a USB diskette drive.

    3. Insert the Windows Vista installation DVD into the computer's DVD drive.

    4. Turn the computer on, and immediately press the F12 key to display the Boot Menu.

    5. Select Install Windows Vista to start the Windows Vista installation.

    6. Select the language and other preferences, then click Next.

    7. Click Install now.

    8. Enter the product ID and accept the license agreement.

    9. Select the Custom installation option.

The "Where do you want install Vista?" screen will appear, but there will be no partitions listed for the installation.

    10. Select Load driver.

    11. Connect the device that contains the Toshiba RAID driver and browse to the location of the Toshiba RAID driver files.

    12. Select the driver to be installed, Toshiba RAID (KR1ON.INF).

    13. The available partition will now be displayed. Select the partition and click Next.

    14. Click OK to overwrite the existing Windows XP installation, and continue with the installation of Windows Vista.
