"This scenario has been discussed in various data recovery forums and the results were ambigous as some of the data recovery experts say that its possible to recover overwritten files and some say no.

The point to be considered is that when a file is saved, memory saves it on specific sector or location of the drive, but when a file is overwritten, memory saves the current data over that location.

Chances are very less where memory saves the overwritten text on different sector of the drive. So its realy not possible to recover back overwritten data, not evern with data recovery software. Some of the rare firms which offer Magnetic Force Scanning Tunneling Microscopy (MFM or STM) facilities in data recovery services could get that back....otherwise NO.."
