    Chat Transcript
info: Please wait for a support representative to respond.
info: You are now chatting with 'Adrian E.'
Adrian E.: Thank you for using Hitachi GST's On-line Chat. How may I help you today?
me: hello, I have some troubles with drive fitnes tool and hdd model HDT722525DLA380
    me: *feature tool
Adrian E.: Ok this is a Serial ATA drive.
Adrian E.: Is the Feature Tool not recognising the 'drive' ?
me: the program reported that SMART is disabled, so I clicked enabled, shutdown and reboot PC, but in Windows no program shows any info for SMART
    me: yes
    me: also enabled SATA 3.0
Adrian E.: Ok, the SMART functionality will be running in the drive, but you do need a tool to read it.
    Adrian E.: For example.
    me: I used ftool_203.iso
Adrian E.: If you were to run the DFT programme, then it would be able to read the SMART data from the drive, and report it in the log
Adrian E.: Its part of the DFT test, so the SMART data is being recorded by the drive.
me: I tried speedfan, hdtune and everest ...
me: the other hitachi hdd I have is showing smart status
Adrian E.: Is the other HDD also SATA ?
    me: ata
    me: HDS722525VLAT80
Adrian E.: Ok, it maybe that the tools have issues reading from a SATA controller.
Adrian E.: If you ran DFT though it would check the SMART status
me: nope, it was fine ... till I changed it ... now I can't change it back :/
me: yep, it shows GOOD, but, I lost temperature readings showed by speedfan
Adrian E.: Ok when you make changes with the Feature Tool, do you physically turn the PC off to make the changes take effect ?
Adrian E.: ie not just a warm reboot ?
me: yes, I enabled Sata 3.0 along with enabling SMART, shutdown and it works the SATA 3.0, tested with tools and SMART is disabled
Adrian E.: Ok, one moment please.
Adrian E.: Sir, can you confirm something for me.
Adrian E.: So now if you go back in with the Feature Tool, it reports that SMART is disabled, and will not allow you to change it ?
me: I can change it, but it won't enable, tried it twice
Adrian E.: Ok, I'm going to need to look into this issue further outside chat.
Adrian E.: I have your email address as ...@....bg ... is the correct address to write to ?
    me: yes
Adrian E.: Ok I will try to get back to you tomorrow with this.
    me: ok, bye then
