"All of that performance requires a certain amont of cooling. When confronted only with light load such as surfing the web the fan stays off most of the time, only revving up for short periods of time and even then, staying only at a very silent 2000RPM. The CPU does not exceed 120F. The entire chassis stays cool to the touch. Under heavy load like such caused by Prime95, the CPU will reach up to 170F and the fan will step up to stage 4, running at 2700RPM. The noise produced, if it can even be called noise, is barely perceivable and relatively pleasant due to the whirring instead of whining nature of the fan. At medium load fan levels 2 and 3 at 2200 and 2500RPM respectively kick in. These too are barely perceivable and very silent. At full load, as I have previously mentioned, the silent fan does not result in the heating-up of the chassis. Quite the opposite in fact. The entire surface of the T540p remains ice cold! I admit, the RAM cover can get about as warm as ones hand, but I'd say that's pretty cool as well. So how is this possible one might ask? Well, the giant fan and massive heatsink, forged entirely from copper definitely play a signficant role. Additionally, air gets sucked in exactly at the spot that would normally heat up, causing said areas to stay unbelievably cool. What you get in return is a machine that stays cold no matter what you do with it. I dare say, the T540p has the best cooling system I have ever encountered in any laptop."
