, .....CHIP FIRM AMD said that it has signed a deal with Chartered Semiconductor - a Singapore foundry - to make 64-bit processors under licence.
AMD said it is doing to so increase production - it currently makes Athlon 64s and Opterons at its Dresden semiconductor factory.
While it is expanding that site, work there is not complete and Gary Heerssen, a senior VP at AMD, said those plans will continue.
Chartered will start making AMD chips at its 300 millimetre Singapore fab during this quarter. Neither AMD nor Chartered said how many processors will be built off site.
