, 18 , stream-.
Playing video or sound in real time as it is downloaded over the Internet. Data is decompressed and played (by use of a web browser plug-in) as it is transferred to your computer over the World Wide Web. Streaming requires a powerful computer and fast connection since the file is not stored on your computer
Streaming audio allows for on-the-fly listening to an audio file. The audio file is streamed from a server where it is received and stored in your buffer on your computer. If you use WinAmp or RealAudio, you will see a message displayed telling you that the audio file is being buffered. The file is not saved on your hard drive.
Unlike downloading -- where you save a complete file locally before you are able to play it -- streaming allows you to play a file as it is being downloaded. The advantage to streaming is that it is virtually instant. You only have to wait for a few seconds before the file starts to play. With streaming media, the content is played as it arrives, and is usually not stored on your computer.
