    With the x8xx and 6xxx series of cards the SM3.0 just doesn't matter. The SM 2.0b that ATi supports can do everything that SM3.0 can, it just may take additional passes; this can result in performance drops. However, the fact of the matter is that the 6xxx series cards just aren't fast enough to run SM3.0 shader functions fast enough to really consider that a major selling point. You really need to be into the 7xxx and X18xx series cards to have enough power to run SM3.0 functions at acceptable speeds.
