Here is the deal. If I would keep my pc on for any length of time I kept getting an error message stating: PortResolver Module has encountered a problem and needs to close. This is related to the HP devices I have as peripherals to my pc; specifically a HP LaserJet Printer 1300 and a HP ScanJet (scanner) 3970. I connected both devices to my pc through a high-speed USB 16 ft cables with a 2 port USB 2 card. I have both devices on a separate power source from my pc.

My pc can be left on now with no error messages appearing. This was accomplished by either one or a combination of the following:

    1. Turn both devices off by simply shutting off the surge power strip they both are connected to; for leaving the pc on for any length of time.

    2. go into the control panel, printers and faxes and right click on printer, right click on properties click on ports and UN-check enable bidirectional support.

    3. click on my computer, click on properties, click on devices and click on universal serial bus controllers and I made sure I had the latest drivers; I had to update (I let xp find it automatically through the wizard) the Intel Host Controller

I now can leave my pc on overnight or during the day WITHOUT any error messages.I hope someone else may find this useful.
